  The Alhambra

Our first day in Granada was wet wet wet. It rained all night and continued to rain as we set off for the half hour walk up the hill to the Alhambra. The plan was to visit the gardens of the Generalife, have an early lunch in the restaurant and then enter the Alhambra at our booked time of 1.30 pm.

Looking across to the Alhambra from the Generalife.
Everyone had their umbrellas up, fighting their way through hordes of schoolchildren and tourist groups! This place was built for the hot weather not for today's rain!  Thank goodness I came here in my 20's when it was sunny and quiet. They say you should never return to a place you loved!

The space between the Generalife and the Alhambra is taken up with vegetable gardens

The Generalife was built over a water storage tank, to keep it cool in summer
