After 15 km on the trail, it was a welcome sight to arrive at the medieval bridge for which Hospital de Orbigo is famous. I think it’s the longest one in Spain. Over the years, various arches got washed away in floods. Now all have been nicely restored and the flow of water controlled. There is a wide grassed area on the flood plain, where each summer they hold a re-enactment of a medieval jousting competition. This commemorates the Paso Honroso when Don Sueno de Quiñones and his men challenged all comers who crossed the bridge. He gave his name to my hotel, which is located on the far side of the bridge and has a lovely view from its terrace (and from my room). It is interesting to watch all the pilgrims arrive as they slowly make their way across.

I had the most amazingly delicious salad which included asparagus, goats cheese, mango, blackberries and avocado as well as all the usual salad ingredients.
This morning there was a red sunrise at 7.00 am. I tried to take a photo, but there is fly wire on the window to keep out mozzies later in the year.
