Evora

Four hectic days in Lisbon are over. I didn’t manage to see half of what was on my list. Never mind; Evora is such a contrast, an oasis of calm in an arid landscape of cork trees, olives and Mediterranean pines.

My hotel, Noble House, is a little gem. It’s a converted nobleman’s residence, highly regarded on TripAdvisor. As I waited to check in, which you can’t do a minute before 3.00pm, a group of 4 Americans arrived and I heard a woman say somewhat disparagingly “They’re all Canadians here.” So...? I didn’t say a word.

Here are some pics of the house:

Breakfast on the terrace.

In this town everything is conveniently close together, so it’s easy to explore. First, the Cathedral and it’s Cloister:

It was also possible to climb the tower up a spiral staircase. There was a 360 degree view of the surrounding countryside. I was standing right next to the belfry when “The clock stuck one”, nearly deafening me!

There are photogenic opportunities at every turn:

Sunset is at 7.00 pm now.

“The Kiss” from the Garden of Diana, a place to cool off on a very hot day.
