Pardoo to Broome, and chilling.

What a relief to have reached Broome after a long hard drive to get here. It is a tropical oasis!

The journey yesterday was mile after mile of long straight road, with little traffic to keep me alert. The only interesting thing was a pair of bush turkeys (bustards) crossing the road nonchalantly. These birds were eaten by aborigines and early settlers, but they seem a bit scrawny when compared to normal farmed turkeys.

Bali Hai is just as beautiful as ever. The gardens have grown more lush than when we were last here 3 years ago. The palm trees are higher and the scent of frangipane is everywhere.

We have Bungalow no. 14 which is right next to the pool. There are not all that many people staying here, so it’s lovely and quiet, but the restaurant was packed last night. It attracts people from outside because it gets brilliant reviews. I ordered a takeaway pizza, which hadn’t arrived after an hour. When I went to complain, the manager was apologetic and gave me one for free!

At sunset, the place to be is Cable Beach:
